Release Notes
Interesting story these are. According to ijwthstd, this taper worked as an usher in the San Francisco area and has taped hundreds of gigs. I've gotten a few Blur and Pulp gigs from him too. These are the first Oasis related shows the taper recorded. U2 was recorded as well.
Disclaimer, these recordings are a little worse for wear when it comes to the other Oakland show I posted two months prior (and the main source for the shows too). In both recordings, Don't Look Back In Anger is cut and missing a few seconds. The second night had some tracking issues I guess where the same soundbite of someone going "yeah!" can he heard after Live Forever, the 6 second track called 'end' and Champagne Supernova.
The file format for both shows are in AIFF. From what I can gather, its still a lossless format
Release Notes
Complete recording of two days in Oakland, where they appeared as an opening act for U2. The first performance, June 18th, was recorded using a different, previously unreleased source. Specifically, the instrumental parts are from a previously unreleased source, while the vocals are from a similar, close-range source. This is a key feature: the recording includes the pre-show sound effects, which were not previously included on the previously released version. As they performed in front of the U2 audience, Noel proclaims, "We're Oasis from England!" at the end of "Champagne Supernova."
While there was some distortion in the bass on the second day, albeit less than on the first, this release is completely free of such issues. Not only that, the difference between the two generations is clear, with an overwhelming difference in sound quality, including the spread and clarity of the sound. Even owners of previously released albums will likely be surprised. The second day also includes a short sound check recording from the day.
A few words about the content: At this point, the album "Be Here Now" had not yet been released, and this Auckland performance marked the live premiere of "D'You Know What I Mean?" and "Be Here Now." The intro to "Be Here Now" lacks the clang-clank sound typically heard on BHN tours, when a man in a top hat hypes up the audience, and is arranged to begin with keyboards. Furthermore, while "Cast No Shadow" and "Wonderwall" were also performed at Main Road and Knebworth, this Auckland performance also marks the first time they've performed versions featuring only the band, without strings or harmonica.
The final recording on Disc 1 is Noel's solo radio appearance on July 15th. As mentioned above, "D'You Know What I Mean?" premiered in Auckland, but this radio appearance marks the first time Noel has sung the acoustic version.
This is a complete recording of two days of U2's performance as an opening act in Auckland on June 18th and 19th, 1997, prior to the release of "Be Here Now." The setlist is special and differs from the usual tour, and includes songs that were never performed before. It uses different, never-before-seen sources from previously released versions, and surpasses previously released versions in both sound quality and content. This is a beautiful, picture-disc, permanently preserved pressing from the Bayswater label, which even Oasis fans secretly buy.

Supporting U2.
Noel introduces "D'You Know What I Mean" as "our new single that everybody said we'd never make."
Oakland '97 (2nd Night) is a recording of the 2nd night sourced from DAT masters. You can hear some chat between the taper and his friend before the show starts. "D'You Know What I Mean" suffers from some brief sound dropouts around 00:40 in.
The Fab 5 Under The S4X60 uses the same DAT source and seems to patch in this section from another source?
Oakland Here I Come was frequently traded as a recording from the 1st night (18/06/97) when in fact it was a (3rd) audience source of this night.
Oakland Night is the best source of this show out of the three available. There are actually TWO versions of Oakland Night in circulation - both are from the same source recording (non-lossless / 15KHz cutoff), but the release by EXPIRE is slightly quieter and has the left/right channels flipped compared to the other source - not sure which came first. (Thanks to @keke from Live4Ever for additional info about the EXPIRE release).
As of 2025, a FOURTH source is also in circulation courtesy of the "Neekrive Archive".
